What a Brat of Me!!
“Until you can be
thankful for what is not enough
you cannot be blessed with what is more than enough!”
T.D. Jakes
you cannot be blessed with what is more than enough!”
T.D. Jakes
This statement speaks
such a profound message that I can’t imagine trying to create a supplemental
message to accompany it. I can only take
a moment to reflect on my own situation and how the words speak to me. For several months I have been looking to
make a new car purchase. My current car,
a 1993 Ford Festiva isn’t very attractive to the eye, it really doesn’t suit me
in size, and has close to 200,000 miles on it.
My husband and I have been in a great debate about the new car I would
get, because I feel it is time for me to have something more “fancy” equating
to far more expensive. In an attempt to
convince him I was deserving of the expense of the car I want I have repeatedly
commented poorly about my little Betty Blue (the festiva). I commented on having to drive such an ugly
piece of junk, how any day she would leave me stranded, and how it was unfair I
had to drive the embarrassing vehicle while he drove our nice automobile. When Mr. T.D. Jakes spoke these words about
gratitude, I felt so disloyal and ungrateful! Betty Blue had been nothing but
dependable and came to me during a time that I had nothing to drive at all! She
is so fuel efficient and easy on my wallet! How could I be such a brat! How could I think I was even deserving of
such a blessing when I had been so ungrateful for what had been provided to
me. Needless to say, I carried this
thought process over into the other areas of my life and created myself a
gratitude list. The majority of my
blessings could never be measured in dollars and cents and are enough to carry
me through a lifetime! I would ask each of you to take a moment and apply this
message to your own situation…..be prepared for a revelation of your own. Thank you Mr. T.D. Jakes!

Quick Tip #1
When shopping ALWAYS look at your receipt when you get home!! First and foremost, there is always room for error! Items may ring up incorrectly, especially if you are comping them!! So be sure to look over the receipt to be certain you paid what you anticipated for an item. Many retailers have began rewarding their customers for input about their shopping experience. This usually can be done online or with a phone call and never takes more than a couple of minutes. Today I shopped at TJ Max, Gordman's and Fashion Bug all offered up to $5 coupons if I complete their short surveys or sent a text message to begin receiving future messages that include coupons and sale information!! WIN WIN!!! Also be sure to check your dining receipts as well! After dining at Logan's Roadhouse today I found a coupon for $3 off our next meal is available by completing a short survey!! WOOT WOOT! Love it when offering my opinion makes my family a dollar or two!

The coupons section will also include links to freebies and any other money saving thought or idea that I run across! EVERYONE has it in them to be an extreme couponer and EVERY family can benefit from saving some of their hard earned cash!! My Vision
One of my most favorite things in the world is a gathering of my “:A-team”! It’s a group of women who couldn’t be more versatile if they had been chosen by a group of researchers. Some of us loud and overly passionate about EVERYTHING! Others are more observant and more flexible with their opinions. The one commonality we all have is that we all want to be the best women we can possibly be. At any given time one could enter into my kitchen and find up to six or eight women ranging from their early twenties to their middle thirties gathered around the table. The conversation bounces erratically around from one subject to the next, perspectives varying from the most conservative to the most liberal. Information is shared, new ideas created, and solutions to problems created. That my friends, is my vision for this blog. I want it to feel like a conversation at the kitchen table with all your best girlfriends. A place you can go to find something interesting, something informative, solutions, motivation, encouragement, and joy. I hope as this blog grows you will feel compelled to continue coming back to see what has been added, so seek solutions, to find encouragement and ideas, and to see what I have to say each day. As I write each entry or post under each category be it a coupon or a science activity I ask myself as a mother and women is this useful to my daily life. Thank you for your patience as I develop the blog and please always feel free to be a part of the conversation!
Printable Coupons!! A great trick to finding high value coupons and different offers is to change up the zip code you are using in the left hand search bar! Bigger cities typically offer higher valued coupons!

If You Have Nothing Nice to Say
When I announced my
family’s decision to withdraw my daughter’s from the local public school system
we received what I can only describe as a mixed response. My closest friends always supportive
reassured me of my fears and uncertainties, many acquaintances commended my enthusiasm
and dedication, and then from some of the people whom I value the most in my
life there was silence. Having spent two
years with the consideration of home schooling in the back of my mind, when the
time came to make a firm decision I was prepared. I had spent much time researching, talking
with home schooled families, and most importantly praying that God would give
me a hundred percent confidence when the time was right. So many times I have told my children, “If
you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.” Though in this situation, the silence seems
to scream obscenities at me. I’ve
carried on with what I know is the right thing for my family, taking the unschooling
approach, I post on Facebook pictures and stories of our daily adventures. I mention my lesson planning, our upcoming
field trips, and proudly brag on our achievements. For a while I’ve sat on the other side of my
computer screen eagerly waiting for a comment of praise or even a dislike so
the silence will be broken. Thus far taking the stubborn Mommy approach and
insisting that every day look like sunshine and cherry blossoms has literally
only robbed me of much needed planning time! I’ve come to the conclusion maybe the basic
rule for keeping a tight lip may be the most appropriate way to handle a
situation such as this. Maybe it’s time
for me to stop hoping in the click of a mouse pad I may find approval. I’m certain I am not the only mother whose
decision to school their children themselves was less than popular. I’m certain
it won’t be the last decision I make in my parenting years that require a few
lips to remain sealed. As with all our
parenting experiences, when teaching our children (and we are all teachers but
that will be a later discussion) some days are noted for the accomplishments and
joys, while others require us to debrief and to find the courage to do it again
tomorrow!
One Fine Sunday
I spent all day Sunday watching the Ophrah Network. First it was Super Soul Sunday
featuring Autism: the Musical.
Since my oldest daughter has recently been given an autism diagnosis and
my nephew is on the severe end of the spectrum I found myself relating to the
families in the documentary. Next was
Oprhah’s Life Class, a repeat of the episode featuring Iyanla Vanzant and
Stopping the Pain. With nothing else
particular I had planned for the day I continued to watch unknown to me that by
ten o’clock Sunday night I am would be changed! I ended the night watching Mr.
T.D. Jakes speak about living life purposefully, and for the first time I felt
really excited! I wasn’t certain what it even was I was excited about as I
jumped to my feet after each revelation he brought to light. The next couple of
days I deeply pondered a question my dear girlfriend asked me during my OWN
marathon, “Do you know your purpose?” I
as many mommies pride myself on raising strong little women of God, though I’ve
begun to think of that as one of my many life tasks and less of my genuine God
given purpose. Inspired to live more
purposefully and to have my own purpose revealed to me, I felt lead to create
this blog. My vision is to create a
place that feels like a conversation at the kitchen table with all your best
girlfriends. I want it to be
informative, uplifting, spirited, and something you can’t wait to do
again.
